“You went out in a canoe by yourself, you took it without permission, and you didn’t wear a life jacket,” Mrs. Anderson, director of Camp Rose Valley, said to twelve-year-old Marilyn. “As a result, you had a close brush with death when the canoe capsized.”
“I thought I could paddle it,” Marilyn murmured.
Mrs. Anderson replied, “Well, you were wrong, and your actions call for serious punishment.”
And with that, Mrs. Anderson turned Marilyn over her knee, picked up a wooden-backed brush, and began to paddle her.
