Just for the record, Peekaboo is my favorite character in Rose Is Rose
“That poor bird!” Rose said reproachfully. “How would you like to be eaten?”
“Meow!” Peekaboo replied, meaning, “I’m too cute to eat.”
That night, Peekaboo, sleeping on Rose and Jimbo’s bed, had a nightmare.
A group of birds sat around a banquet table holding knives and forks.
She, Peekaboo, was on a platter in the middle of the table, trembling.
She let out such a loud, terrified “MEEEEOOOOOWWWWW!!!!”
that she woke herself up. She also awakened Rose, Jimbo,
and Pasquale, who came running into the room.
It took a lot of petting, soothing voices, and finally a saucer of
warm milk to calm Peekaboo down.
The next day she began giving speeches to other cats and kittens:
“It’s time to evolve. It’s time to stop eating birds.”
