Summary:

Written for

https://sammiscribbles.wordpress.com/2021/08/21/weekend-writing-prompt-223-pre-loved/
where the challenge was to write a story in exactly 71 words

Notes:

I’ve given a different meaning to the word pre-loved.

(See the end of the work for more notes)

The only thing Addie knew about him so far was that his name was Melrose, but that was
enough. She already knew that she loved him, and she hoped that he would love her just as much.

The front door opened. Addie’s father came in, and placed Melrose on the seven-year-old girl’s lap.

“Here he is,” he said.

“Melrose,” Addie whispered, “my darling Melrose.”

Addie’s pre-loved Melrose gave a contented meow.

Notes:

I’ve also used this prompt:

but placed it here to avoid a spoiler.
