Classic Misheard Lyric

Yep, I’m talking about the line in “Bad Moon Rising”, “There’s a bad moon on the rise,” which so many people have misheard as “There’s a bathroom on the right.”

It cracks me up when John Fogerty sings the “bathroom” line and points to the right.

I don’t think every singer/songwriter would have a sense of humor about having a lyric misheard. I’m not sure I would, if I were a songwriter.

  1. Misheard lyrics are called mondegreens and one of the most famous mondegreen is when Kimi Hendrix sings “excuse me while I kiss the sky and people hear “excuse me while I kiss this guy.” Of course my favorite mondegreen is from Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody, wher people hear “Scare a moose, scare a moose, will you do my fan Van Gogh?” When the actual lyrics are “Scaramouche, scaramouche, will you do the fandango?”
