What I Said, And What I WISH I Had Said

After I’d been in the nursing home/rehab center for a few weeks, a psychologist came to talk to me.
She saw the Bible on my table and asked, “Why do you have a Bible in your room?”

“To read,” I said.

So then she asked if I read the Bible a lot.

“What you’re really asking,” I said, “is am I a religious fanatic. No, I’m not. FANATICS try to force their religion on others.”

I then asked her to leave; I did not want to deal with her.

What I WISH I’d said is, “I have a Bible in my room because this is America, a free country, and in a free country, I can have a Bible without being questioned about it.”
