Have You Ever Been A Fire Engine?

Oh, I know you weren’t… not really. But when you were little, did you ever play that you were a fire engine?

Did you make the wailing sound of the siren…AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, and go “CLANG, CLANG, CLANG,” imitating the bell? Did you make whooshing noises to represent the water coming out of the hose?

Did you ever ride a little fire engine that went around and around in a circle at an amusement park? Seems like half the time the siren didn’t work!

I had a fire engine when I was little. It was also a train, a car, a boat, an airplane, a castle…. in other words, a large box.

Finally, one of the books I’ve loved since childhood is Carolyn Haywood’s “Eddie And The Fire Engine”. I really need to replace my lost copy; this book isn’t available online.

Well, this engine has gone from one track to another!

  1. I would sometime pretend that I was a fireman and that my tricycle was a fire engine. Then I got a two-wheeler and I was suddenly transformed into a motorcycle cop. Those verre the days!
