A CARD, AND A JOKE

There’s a card that many Catholics used to carry; perhaps some still do:
“I AM A ROMAN CATHOLIC. IN CASE OF ACCIDENT, PLEASE CALL A PRIEST.”

Well, there was a priest in my old parish back in the eighties who had a card that said:
“I AM A ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIEST. IN CASE OF ACCIDENT, PLEASE CALL A DOCTOR.”

(And that’s something else you now know about me: I’m a Catholic.)

I’m now going to share, but not verbatim, a joke I first read years ago in a Catholic magazine.

A priest was walking through the woods one day when all of a sudden he met a bear.
There was no way the priest could escape, so he prayed, “Lord, if I’ve been a good and faithful servant, please make that bear a Catholic.”
And the bear made the Sign of the Cross.
“Thank You! Thank You!” the priest whispered, looking up in gratitude and relief.
And then the bear said, “Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts….”
